Robotic PCI Confirmed Safe and Effective

Robotic PCI Confirmed Safe and Effective
Source:
Articles in Press-May 13, 2025
Based on Study: Mahmud et al., JSCAI (Journal of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions)
1. Robotic PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) has been shown to be safe and highly effective according to a large new analysis.
2. The technology enables cardiologists to operate remotely from a shielded cockpit, reducing radiation exposure and orthopedic strain.
3. The analysis combined results from two key studies:
• PRECISION (754 procedures, 2013–2017 using CorPath 200):
• Clinical success: 96.9%
• Technical success: 89.6%
• PRECISION GRX (980 procedures, 2017–2020 using CorPath GRX):
• Clinical success: 98.1%
• Technical success: 89.2%
4. The second-generation CorPath GRX system achieved better results, especially for complex lesions, due to:
• Robotic control of the guide catheter
• High-resolution imaging screen, which reduced contrast use
5. No robotic platform-related complications were reported across both studies — a key finding confirming the safety of robotic PCI.
6. The procedure requires a hybrid approach:
• Operator in remote cockpit or control room
• Tableside team for device exchange and manual support
7. The studies covered both experienced and novice operators, proving broad applicability.
8. Research was funded by Corindus, the manufacturer of both robotic systems.
