AI Predicts LBBB Risk in TAVR Patients Before Treatment

AI Predicts LBBB Risk in TAVR Patients Before Treatment
Source: May 5, 2025.Journal: Future Cardiology
Key Highlights:
1. Clinical Problem
• TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) is commonly associated with new-onset Left Bundle Branch Block (LBBB) due to mechanical injury near the aortic valve. LBBB risk after TAVI is influenced by several factors, including valve type (higher with self-expandable valves), implantation depth, patient anatomy (e.g., septal thickness or calcification)& the expertise of the center.
• Predicting this complication before the procedure has been a challenge.
2. Study Goal
• To determine whether AI can predict LBBB risk before TAVR, using only pre-procedure data.
3. Methodology
• Data from 469 TAVR patients with no prior LBBB were analyzed.
• Split into:
• 328 patients for training AI models
• 141 patients for testing performance
• Various AI models were evaluated.
4. Key Findings
• All predictions were based solely on pre-implantation clinical and imaging data.
5. Clinical Implications
• The study shows promise for AI-assisted risk prediction in interventional cardiology.
• Early identification of high-risk patients may guide device choice, procedural planning, and patient counseling.
6. Future Directions
• Integrate AI into routine clinical pathways
