CPR Week Message: Saving Lives Starts with Us

CPR Week Message: Saving Lives Starts with Us
In recognition of CPR Week, the Jordanian Cardiac Society (JCS) is preparing to launch a nationwide “AED in Every Public Place” campaign, in collaboration with and supported by the American Heart Association (AHA). This initiative aims to make Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and high-quality CPR training accessible where they are needed most—starting with:
• Shopping malls
• Places of worship
• Government offices
• Healthcare facilities
• Transportation hubs
• Sporting venues and schools
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and delivers an electric shock if needed to restore a normal rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest. Why It Matters
Sudden cardiac arrest can strike anyone, anywhere, at any time. Immediate CPR and AED use can double or triple the chances of survival. Our goal is simple: Every hand trained, every second counts.
CPR Best Practices (Adult):
• Chest compressions at a rate of 100–120 per minute
• Compression depth: 2–2.4 inches (5–6 cm)
• Allow full chest recoil; minimize interruptions.
• Trained responders: 30 compressions + 2 rescue breaths.
• Untrained bystanders: Hands-only CPR is recommended—push hard and fast in the center of the chest.
Resuscitation Quality Improvement Program
• Studies show CPR skills begin to deteriorate within 3–6 months of training.
• The AHA’s Program uses a “low-dose, high-frequency” approach to maintain lifesaving proficiency through short, quarterly simulation sessions.
• This model ensures every healthcare worker is ready to deliver effective CPR, every time.
