Jordan’s achievements in the field of cardiology and major organ transplantation over a development journey spanning 54 years (since 1970) have always been at the forefront:

1. The first open-heart surgery for ASD in Jordan was performed at Amman Military Hospital on May 17, 1970.

2. The first kidney transplant in Jordan was performed at Amman Military Hospital on May 24, 1972.

4. Vascular tumor surgeries in 1980.

5. Coronary artery balloon angioplasty (PTCA) was performed on April 7, 1985, with the first coronary artery stent implantation in 1993.

6. The first heart transplant in Jordan was performed at the Heart Center on August 9, 1985.

7. Left internal carotid artery stent implantation on January 14, 1997.

8. Non-surgical closure of congenital atrial septal defects using therapeutic catheterization on June 18, 1997, for the first time in the region and the fifth country globally.

9. On November 27, 1997, the Heart Center performed the first heart and lung transplant in Jordan and the region.

10. On August 31, 1998, for the first time in the Arab world, three congenital heart disease surgeries were performed without surgery and broadcasted live via satellite to a medical conference in Boston, USA.

11. On October 1, 1999, subarachnoid hemorrhage treatment without surgery was conducted. This achievement advanced Jordan’s steps in this field, providing treatment at a lower cost and time than abroad.

12. On December 6, 1999, brain hemorrhage caused by arterial calcification or arteriovenous malformation was treated using catheterization without surgery.

13. On January 29, 2000, intracranial arterial stenosis was treated using catheterization and metal stents without surgery.

14. On October 30, 2000, a temporary vena cava filter was implanted to prevent pulmonary embolism.

15. Arterial aneurysm surgeries using therapeutic catheterization with arterial grafts and metal cylinders in 2002.

16. On October 6, 2010, a rare surgery was performed on a 9-day-old infant diagnosed prenatally to repair an aortic aneurysm in the main abdominal and pelvic arteries. This was the seventh case worldwide and the fourth using a synthetic graft.

17. Cochlear implant surgery in 2004.

18. Liver transplant surgeries in 2004.

19. The first stem cell transplant in 2009.
