Nurses Developing Mysterious Brain Tumors

Nurses Developing Mysterious Brain Tumors
Source: Health Exec – Written by Chad Van Alstin
Published: April 8, 2025
1. Five nurses working on the same floor at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts have been diagnosed with benign brain tumors.
2. In total, 11 staff members on the same unit reported health issues.
3. The affected unit is the fifth-floor maternity ward at the hospital, part of Mass General Brigham.
4. The hospital began a full investigation in December 2024, conducting interviews and comprehensive environmental assessments following CDC guidelines.
5. According to hospital officials, no environmental risk factors were found that could explain the brain tumors.
6. The Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA) has raised concerns about the thoroughness of the investigation, citing over 300 complaints from staff across the hospital.
7. The MNA is now seeking access to medical records for deeper investigation and claims the issue might extend beyond the maternity ward.
8. Despite staff concern, the hospital maintains that the tumors are likely coincidental, stating there is no evidence of environmental hazards.
9. The case has attracted national and international media attention, with coverage by outlets such as NBC10 Boston and The Guardian.
10. The situation remains under investigation, with both the hospital and the nurses’ union closely monitoring developments.https://healthimaging.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ede357a4dde4e6d1363fede03&id=eb5e08f192&e=e8ff1dad3e
