Will AI Help or Hurt Healthcare Equality?

Will AI Help or Hurt Healthcare Equality? – Summary
Source: Dave Pearson | March 18, 2025 | AI in Healthcare | Artificial Intelligence
Key Points:
1. AI’s Limitations in Reducing Healthcare Disparities
• AI lacks wisdom and human intuition, which are crucial in medical decision-making.
2. Economic Disparities and AI Implementation
• High costs of AI tools may prevent low-income communities from accessing AI-driven healthcare.
• AI models are mostly trained on data from high-income countries.
• If not re-trained for low income countries , AI tools may reinforce existing health inequities.
3. AI in End-of-Life Care and Compassion Concerns
• AI models risk depersonalizing palliative care and failing to account for cultural values.
• A one-size-fits-all approach based on Western datasets may neglect minority populations.

Personal Opinion: Inequality is a syndrome rooted in prevailing practices within impoverished societies. Addressing it should be the top priority, as eliminating these foundational disparities will naturally help bridge other forms of inequality—whether in healthcare, science, or beyond.
