Study Focus:<br \/>\n\u2022 Robotic mitral valve repair was compared to traditional sternotomy in patients aged 65 and older with severe mitral regurgitation (MR).<br \/>\n2. Study Details:<br \/>\n\u2022 Data from over 600 patients at a high-volume center were analyzed.<br \/>\n\u2022 189 patients were matched using propensity score matching for fair comparison.<br \/>\n\u2022 Median patient age was 70 years; 33.1% were women.<br \/>\n3. Key Findings:<br \/>\n\u2022 Operative mortality was very low at 0.3%.<br \/>\n\u2022 Robotic patients had longer perfusion (80 min) and cross-clamp times (54 min) compared to sternotomy (52 min and 38 min).<br \/>\n4. Clinical Outcomes:<br \/>\n\u2022 Robotic group had:<br \/>\n\u2022 Fewer blood transfusions (21% vs. 32%).<br \/>\n\u2022 Lower rates of new-onset atrial fibrillation.<br \/>\n\u2022 Shorter ICU stays and overall hospitalizations.<br \/>\n\u2022 Stroke rates and discharge outcomes were similar between both groups.<br \/>\n5. Echocardiographic Results:<br \/>\n\u2022 Recurrent and residual MR was rare in both groups.<br \/>\n\u2022 Reintervention rates were very low.<br \/>\n6. Survival Rates:<br \/>\n\u2022 Mean survival was excellent: 98% at 3 years, 95% at 5 years, and 92% at 10 years.<br \/>\n\u2022 No significant difference in survival or quality of life between robotic and sternotomy approaches.<br \/>\n7.
