Stenting in CTO PCI: Key Findings from SCAI 2025

Stenting in CTO PCI: Key Findings from SCAI 2025
Source: May 6, 2025
1. Study Overview:
• New research presented at the SCAI 2025 Scientific Sessions focused on patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusion (CTO).
• The analysis included 677 patients treated at a high-volume center.
2. Stenting Usage:
• Over 81% of patients received stents during their procedure.
3. Clinical Outcomes:
• Stenting was linked to:
• Lower cardiovascular mortality at 6 months.
• Fewer cardiac arrests at 1 year.
• Similar all-cause mortality and in-hospital complications at 30 days, compared to those who did not receive a stent.
4. Expert Insight:
• Dr. M. Chadi Alraies (Wayne State University / Detroit Medical Center) emphasized that the findings support the long-term safety and effectiveness of stenting in CTO PCI patients.
5. Conclusion:
• The study reinforces that stenting is an important and viable treatment option for complete coronary blockages.
6. Future Events:
• SCAI 2026 Scientific Sessions April 23–26 in Montreal, Canada.
