ACC – NCDR Overview
1. NCDR – The Foundation
• Founded by the ACC in 1997, starting with the CathPCI Registry.
• Expanded to include:
• TVT Registry → Transcatheter Valve Therapies (TAVR, Mitral TEER, Tricuspid).
• ICD Registry → Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
• LAAO Registry → Left atrial appendage occlusion (Watchman, etc.).
• PVI Registry → AF ablation procedures and other arrhythmia ablations.
• Other registries → congenital heart disease, quality programs, etc.
• Today, more than 850 sites contribute standardized real-world cardiovascular data.
• Impact: guided FDA approvals, CMS coverage decisions, and adoption of new technologies.
• Focus: patient-centered outcomes such as quality of life, procedural success, and long-term safety.
• Mandated by insurers (including CMS) for coverage and reimbursement of specific procedures.
2. The STS/ACC TVT Registry – A Cornerstone of Structural Heart Care
• Helped define the Heart Team model in structural interventions (surgeons & cardiologists working side by side).
• Tracks quality of life at baseline, 30 days, and 1 year – with the greatest improvements usually seen by 30 days.
• Registry data have directly influenced FDA approvals for new devices and therapies.
• Its collaborative, transparent model has become a gold standard, now emulated by other specialties.
