Pilot Study: Same-Day Discharge (SDD) After PCI in ACS Patients.
Pilot Study: Same-Day Discharge (SDD) After PCI in ACS Patients.
Journal of SCAI (JSCAI)
1. Context
• Same-day discharge after elective PCI is well-established.
• But its use for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients has been minimally studied, particularly in settings with limited resources.
2. Study Details
• 20 low-risk ACS patients (stable, uncomplicated procedures, no bleeding , no new or worsening ECG changes after post PCI ) underwent PCI and were discharged within 6 hours.
• A comparison group of 80 matched patients stayed overnight.
3. Definition of Low-Risk
• Patients had no post-PCI complications (e.g., bleeding, hematoma, arrhythmia).
• Clinically stable and non-complex lesions.
• Adequate home support and quick access to emergency care.
4. Results After 7 Days
• No major adverse cardiovascular events or significant bleeding in either group.
• Median hospital stay:
• SDD group: ~7.5 hours
• Overnight group: ~54 hours
5. Conclusion
• In carefully selected, low-risk ACS patients, same-day discharge post-PCI is safe and feasible, even in resource-limited settings.
