New Oral Drug Shows Promise for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
* AD109, a once-daily oral medication, significantly improved OSA in patients unable or unwilling to use CPAP.
* Combines:
* Atomoxetine
* Aroxybutynin
* Reduced loud snoring by 70% (vs 26% with placebo).
* No serious treatment-related adverse events were reported.
* May become the first effective oral therapy for OSA, either alone or combined with GLP-1–based weight-loss therapies such as tirzepatide.
Take-Home Message
AD109 significantly reduced sleep apnea severity, and snoring for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP.
