Smartphone Platform Creates a Digital Chain of Survival for STEMI Care
Smartphone Platform Creates a Digital Chain of Survival for STEMI Care
• A smartphone-based platform (STEMIcathAID) enables a real-time digital chain of survival by instantly connecting the emergency department, interventional cardiologist, cath lab, ICU, and transfer teams on a single secure platform.
• Emergency physicians transmit ECGs, clinical data, and alerts directly to the on-call interventional cardiologist, allowing immediate case review and decision-making.
• Two-physician confirmation (emergency physician and interventional cardiologist) ensures accurate STEMI diagnosis before cath lab activation, reducing unnecessary activations while avoiding treatment delays.
• The platform provides early access to patient information, facilitating preparation for primary PCI and, when needed, mechanical circulatory support before the patient arrives.
• Since its launch the app has been used in nearly 600 STEMI patients, leading to improved workflow and expansion across the entire Mount Sinai Health System.
